Mizoram — The Songbird of the Northeast
Mizoram is a ridge-and-valley state where almost every town sits on a spine of hill with the land falling away on both sides. Aizawl, the capital, is built along one such ridge, and the state's literacy rate, church choirs and Sunday quiet give it a character quite unlike anywhere else in India.
Trips here are unhurried: Reiek's tribal village and cliff-top viewpoint, the tea and vineyards of Champhai on the Myanmar border, Vantawng Falls near Thenzawl and the blue-pine ridge of Phawngpui, the Blue Mountain, for travellers who want to trek.

Reiek Heritage Village
An hour from Aizawl, a reconstructed traditional Mizo village at the foot of Reiek peak. The 1,465-metre summit trek takes about 90 minutes and looks over the Bangladesh plains on a clear day.
Vantawng Falls
Mizoram's tallest waterfall at 229 metres, dropping through dense bamboo near Thenzawl. A viewing tower gives the best angle; the surrounding area is also known for its handloom weaving centres.
Champhai
The 'rice bowl of Mizoram' on the Myanmar border, with vineyards, the Rih Dil lake just across in Myanmar, and Murlen National Park's semi-evergreen forest nearby.
Phawngpui (Blue Mountain)
The state's highest peak at 2,157 m, a national park of rhododendron and orchid with the sheer Thlazuang Khàm cliff and superb birding. An overnight at Sangau makes the summit walk easy.

- Lengpui Airport (AJL), 32 km from Aizawl, with flights from Kolkata, Guwahati and Imphal.
- By rail
- Bairabi is the nearest railhead; Silchar in Assam is the commonly used option, around 6 hours away.
- By road
- NH-306 from Silchar to Aizawl. Within the state, sturdy SUVs are essential — gradients are steep and roads narrow.

- Inner Line Permit is mandatory for Indian citizens; it can be obtained online or on arrival at Lengpui with our assistance.
- Sunday is observed strictly — plan rest, church visits or nature stops rather than shopping.
