Thailand — Temples, Islands and Street Food
Thailand works for almost every kind of traveller, which is why it remains India's favourite overseas first trip. Bangkok delivers gilded temples, rooftop bars and markets that run past midnight; Phuket and Krabi open the Andaman Sea with limestone karsts and island-hopping; Pattaya is the short, easy beach add-on; and Chiang Mai gives the northern hills, ethical elephant sanctuaries and Lanna temples.

Grand Palace and Wat Pho, Bangkok
The Emerald Buddha in Wat Phra Kaew inside the Grand Palace complex, and the 46-metre reclining Buddha at Wat Pho next door. Strict dress code — shoulders and knees covered — and best visited at opening time to beat both heat and crowds.
Phi Phi Islands and Maya Bay
Speedboat day trips from Phuket or Krabi to Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave and Bamboo Island, with snorkelling stops over reef. Maya Bay has restricted entry and no swimming to protect the recovering coral.
Krabi and Railay
Ao Nang as the base, with the four-island tour to Poda and Chicken Island, Railay's climbing cliffs reachable only by longtail, and the 1,260 steps to the Tiger Cave Temple viewpoint.
Coral Island and Pattaya
Ko Larn's beaches with parasailing, banana boat and sea walking, plus Pattaya's Sanctuary of Truth, floating market and the Nong Nooch tropical garden — the easiest beach add-on to a Bangkok trip.
Chiang Mai and the North
Doi Suthep temple above the city, the old town's moat and Lanna wats, Sunday walking street, ethical elephant sanctuaries where riding is not offered, and Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest peak.
Bangkok Markets and River
Chatuchak weekend market's 15,000 stalls, Damnoen Saduak floating market, Maeklong railway market, Asiatique riverfront and a Chao Phraya dinner cruise past Wat Arun.

Cool and dry · November – February
The best weather nationwide: comfortable in Bangkok, calm seas on the Andaman coast. Peak rates around Christmas and New Year.
Hot season · March – May
Very warm, with Songkran water festival in mid-April. Good island visibility and lower hotel rates before the rains.
Green season · June – October
Short heavy showers rather than all-day rain, the lowest prices of the year, and lush landscapes. Some island tours are weather-dependent.

- By air
- Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) in Bangkok, Phuket (HKT), Krabi (KBV) and Chiang Mai (CNX), all with direct or one-stop flights from major Indian cities.
- By rail
- Domestic rail links Bangkok with Chiang Mai and the south; overnight sleepers are comfortable and inexpensive.
- By road
- Bangkok to Pattaya is about 2 hours by private transfer; ferries and speedboats connect Phuket, Phi Phi and Krabi.
Travel tips
- Indian passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival or travel under the current visa-exemption scheme — we confirm the latest rules at the time of booking.
- Carry modest clothing for temple visits; sarongs are rented at entrances but at a premium.
- Agree on a meter or use ride apps for taxis in Bangkok rather than negotiating a flat fare.
- Never touch or feed monkeys at temple sites, and avoid elephant-riding camps — we book observation-only sanctuaries.
What to eat: Pad thai, tom yum goong, green and massaman curry, mango sticky rice and som tam; vegetarian and Jain meals are readily arranged on our group departures.

How many days for Thailand?
Six nights is standard — three Bangkok, three Pattaya or Phuket. Eight to nine nights allows Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi together.
Is Thailand suitable for families?
