Every itinerary below covers the classic western circuit of Thimphu, Punakha and Paro, with the option to extend to Phobjikha, Bumthang and the east. Turopia arranges the Bhutan entry permit and route permits, licensed Bhutanese guides, government-approved hotels and the Sustainable Development Fee paperwork, so all you carry is a passport or voter ID.
Best time to visit
March to May for rhododendron blooms and the Paro Tshechu, and September to November for crystal-clear Himalayan views and the Thimphu Tshechu. December to February is cold but wonderfully quiet and cheap.
How to reach
By road via Jaigaon–Phuentsholing (nearest airport Bagdogra, 4.5 hrs; nearest railhead Hasimara, 20 mins) or by air to Paro International Airport from Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Bagdogra.
